#WakaKenya Day 2 Photos – Chioma Akpotha, Uche Jombo, The Big 5, Near Extinct Rhinos, A Chimp Spanking the Monkey and an Animal Orphanage #MagicalKenya

share on:

Always wondered what it must feel like to sleep in a game reserve where the wild animals are allowed to roam freely; especially after seeing rhinos and a lion come to a watering hole near your tent while listenng to Uche Jombo and Chioma Akpotha tell tales on Nollywood and monkeys swinging across trees just behind you?

It was bliss. It felt good to be woken up by the beautiful singing of the birds and the lovely fresh air. A long day lay ahead of us. Tick tock. (By the way for those of you who missed the photos from Day 1 of the WakaKenya tour, you can see it here)

The Day 2 Journey kickstarted with an Early Game Drive for the #Big5 at the Ol Pejeta Conservancy where our Serena Sweet Waters Tented Camp was.

We got to see 3 of the Big5  – Buffalo, Rhino and Elephant (the lion and leopard were scared of us l0l). We then went to the Rhino Sanctuary also in Ol Pejeta which is home to three of the world’s last remaining three northern white rhinos (1 male and 2 females), and a sanctuary for 115 critically endangered black rhinos.

We got back to our Sweet Waters base to have breakfast and get set for our next trip to see the Chimpanzees.

We then set off to see the Chimpanzee sanctuary, a refuge for Chimps who had been rescued from different forms of slavery, brutality, awful pet care and are now on the path to learning how to be chimps again. Did you know that human beings share 98.6% of our genetic DNA with chimpanzees. We got to meet an interesting chimp called Safari –  an ex-alpha male of the group who refused to mate with any of the female chimps but loved to spank the monkey (masturbate) all the time –  an act he heavily indulged in upon seeing the Nollywood beauties Uche and Chioma lol.

We then proceeded to have lunch at the 2013 Travellers Choice Awards winner – Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club Resort situated in Nanyuki as well. The resort which was originally the retreat of movie star & Club founder, William Holden, (the Club’s illustrious former members have included Winston Churchill and Bing Crosby), boasts of 120 luxuriously appointed hotel rooms, set in over 100 acres of landscaped gardens, with magnificent views of majestic Mount Kenya, and activities like horseback riding, golf, croquet, a bowling green, table tennis, swimming, an animal orphanage and much more.

After lunch Chioma Akpotha, Isaac Moses, Nneka Moses and Azeez Makinde went horseback riding and then afterwards we all visited the animal orphanage.
